It is one of the state’s oldest rivalries, stretching back to the first game they played in 1922. In the 95th meeting between Sapulpa and Sand Springs, the Chieftains came into the game leading the series 45 to 44 with five ties.

Although Sapulpa struck first, Sand Springs ended up on top in this installment of the Highway 97 rivalry. The Sandites won it 53-26 over the Chieftains, bringing the rivalry to a tie at 45-45 and 5.
