The Salute to Teachers annual event, which began in 1990 and is televised by Cox Communications as a public “thank you” to local educators, celebrates the county’s 24,000-plus public-school teachers. Supporting local education is an important part of the legacy left behind by Cox Communications’ founder James M. Cox, who was a teacher early in his career.
